More than Just a Registry

The GCCF

The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF) is one of 9 major international cat fancies (registrative bodies), formed in 1910, from four cat clubs registering cats. In addition to the registration of pedigree cats it manages all the rules and titles relevant to cat shows. Most importantly, they protect the welfare of cats and improve cat breeding. There are also two important sub-committees – the Genetics Committee and the Veterinary Committee.

Why the GCCF?

I’ve heard breeders say, “I don’t register my pedigree cats with the GCCF, because it’s too difficult”; this is exactly why I register my cats with the GCCF.
The GCCF have many rules set for breeders to ensure that the welfare of the individual cat, their kittens, the breed, and all cats under their registration are paramount.

GCCF Breeder Scheme

In addition to the rules set-out for breeders who register their cats with the GCCF, they have a voluntary breeder scheme, which ensure a breeder's facilities and practices meet the welfare requirements set out in the scheme standard.

Our home and cats have been inspected by a GCCF accessor (28th February 2025) to ensure we meet the requirements set-out by the GCCF Breeder Scheme in terms of:

  • Legal requirements and contracts

  • Information and advice for buyers

  • Documentation

  • Facilities

  • Health & safety

  • Scheme compliance

  • Cat’s welfare
